Bentley College Professor Had Extensive Role in Developing IS Curricula New York, May 14, 2003 -- The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has recognized Professor John Gorgone of Bentley College in Waltham, MA for his contributions to computing education. Dr. Gorgone, who played a major role in developing national curricula models in information systems, extended his work to include criteria for accreditation standards. He will receive ACM's Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award, which carries a $5,000 prize. The awards committee noted that Dr. Gorgone made "outstanding contributions to computing education through exceptional teaching and mentorship." Dr. Gorgone is listed among the 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century (2000), and "Who's Who in American Education (1996-97)". He has extensive experience as a management and information consultant to Fortune 500 companies, US State boards of higher education and college presidents. A prolific scholar with more than 180 published and presented professional papers, Dr. Gorgone is Richard H. Rubin Professor of Computer Information Systems, and was founding Chair of the CIS Department at Bentley, currently one of the largest and best known in the US. Dr. Gorgone earned a BA from the University of Southern Colorado; an MA from the University of Northern Colorado; and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. ACM will present the 2002 Karlstrom Award to Professor Gorgone at its annual Awards Banquet on June 7, at the Town and Country Conference Center in San Diego, CA. The $5,000 prize is supplied by the Prentice-Hall Publishing Company.
