Book Swap Adds Nearly 200 New eBooks and Videos to ACM Learning Center
In September, ACM added dozens of new titles to the ACM custom eBook and Safari video collections to update existing editions, fill coverage gaps, and introduce new coverage reflecting current trends in computing. In our refreshed Safari Books Online collection you'll find updated coverage of popular web and mobile programming toolkits such as AngularJS, Node.js, and MongoDB. For mobile developers, we have updated titles on Android and iOS application programming (including Objective-C). Java developers will find expanded coverage of the ever-popular programming language, with current books on Java EE 7 and SE 7 and 8. There are also a number of open-source tools receiving first-time coverage, including Camel, Flask, Gradle, Jenkins, OpenCV, OpenStack, Pentaho, PhoneGap, Pig, Puppet, and Selenium. Other web programming tools and technologies receiving attention are Drupal, JavaScript, jQuery, and PHP and MySQL. In our Safari video collection, you can find new videos on AngularJS, Android application development fundamentals (update), Hadoop, Java fundamentals (update) and advanced Java with SE 8, Java EE 7, and software achitecture.

You'll also find more than 120 new book titles in our Books 24x7 collection. New titles target tools and skills such as Akka concurrency, Apache Tomcat, Backbone.js, BeagleBone Black, DB2, data analysis with Tableau, DevOps for developers, embedded ARM development, Git, healthcare information systems, management information systems, Oracle Database 12C, parallel programming with Ada, PHP programming with the Zend framework, Windows 8, and Xcode 5. For learners seeking popular vendor certifications, we have updated preparatory guides for Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Cisco's CCENT and CCNA certifications for network associates and technicians, Linux Professional Institute (LPIC), Oracle Solaris 11 (OCA), Project Management Professional (PMP), RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux; as well as first-time coverage of ISACA's CRISC certification (Risk and Information Systems Control) and the Open Group's TOGAF framework standard for enterprise architects. For current and aspiring project managers, we have added titles on the implementation of agile Scrum principles with the lean Kanban methodology, as well as Toyota's lean office principles. The book swap also highlights new and emerging bodies of research in computer vision and image processing, ethical computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning in image steganalysis, recommender systems, and securing critical infrastructures and critical control systems.

Register for Sept. 30 Webcast with 2013 ACM Fellow Dennis Shasha: "The Changing Nature of Invention in Computer Science"
There's only a few days left to register for "The Changing Nature of Invention in Computer Science", presented live on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at noon ET by Dennis Shasha, Professor of Computer Science at the Courant Institute of New York University and a 2013 ACM Fellow. Dennis will discuss the work of several inventors in computing and engineering, their inventions, and their process of creating these and future inventions. The ensuing discussion will address the fundamental nature of invention in a world partly populated by intelligent machines. Eric Simon, Chief Architect at SAP, will moderate the questions and answers session.

Our August 29 webinar, "Async JavaScript at Netflix", is now available on demand. Jafar Husain, Cross-UI Team Technical Lead at Netflix, covered an impressive amount of ground in this highly acclaimed and technically oriented webcast. Jafar demonstrated how to use familiar JavaScript array methods to create surprisingly expressive asynchronous programs, exploring the Reactive Extensions (Rx) library.
