Leader! Welcome to the ACM Professional Chapter Toolkit, a resource that we hope you will find useful in many ways. This guide is designed for all the leaders within your chapter, from the Chair to the Newsletter Editor. Although each chapter is different, the needs of most are the same: consistency, effective leadership and substance to offer their communities. This toolkit will be effective in helping you meet your chapter's goals on many levels. Your chapter has much to offer your community. But when it comes to reaching the goal of making your chapter successful, nothing will take the place of your volunteer energy and dedication. Its leaders define a chapter's strength and character. As a chapter leader, you've part of a long tradition of excellence through volunteerism. Your chapter serves an important role in ACM, as it helps fulfill the mission of ACM. The success of your chapter is important to the entire ACM organization. Chapters play a special role in ACM, bringing people and technology together on a local level. Like ACM, your members are most likely professionals, academics, researchers, and students, perhaps even children. With such diverse needs to meet, standards to achieve, content to deliver and functions to fulfill, your challenges are concerns shared by all of us within the organization. Use this document to nurture future leaders within your chapter, to give an understanding for what it takes to manage the needs of a chapter. Customize and add to it to suit the needs of your chapter. We encourage you to review think of this document as being a dynamic entity and to make suggestions and contributions. Your chapter is part of a global network of ACM chapters. Share what you have learned with other chapter leaders worldwide. Your experience can build this resource to be an even more powerful tool to build strong chapters everywhere.
