Chapter Strategy/Mission Statement

The SIG (Special Interest Group) should serve as the leading professional society for the Central Region of Russian specialists in HCI and Usability. Membership in the SIG must be useful for its members. The SIG must assist professional growth and promote professional co-operation within the country and at the international level.

Chapter Goals

  1. To promote a knowledge of and greater interest in the science, design, development, and applications of Human-Computer Interaction and Usability.

  2. To provide a means of communication between persons having an interest in Human-Computer Interaction and Usability.

Proposed Activities

Please provide information for activities you would like to have.

  1. Type of activity: Workshops
    Proposed date of activity: At least 5 workshops during 2004-2005
    Brief description of activity:

    Workshops are the main activity of the group since 2001. The 14th and 15th workshops are scheduled at August 25 and September 15 accordingly. There will be another workshops organized during 2004-2005.

  2. Type of activity: Web site
    Proposed date of activity: October 2004
    Brief description of activity:

    The SIG will develop a web site for its members and for the public.


  3. Type of activity: Library
    Proposed date of activity: November 2004
    Brief description of activity:

    Lack of professional literature is a serious problem in Russia where book shops do not sell and public libraries do not collect the necessary publications in HCI and usability. The SIG should establish its own library of both paper and electronic publications for its members.

  4. Type of activity: Membership Drive
    Proposed date of activity: September 2005
    Brief description of activity:

    The membership in the SIG is expected to increase by approx. 50% during the year.
