CSCW 2004 will offer tutorials designed to give participants the opportunity to learn about CSCW concepts and techniques in intensive sessions. Proposals are solicited for half-day and full day tutorials. Half-day tutorials have been particularly successful in recent years.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- An introduction to CSCW
- A technical overview of CSCW
- Specific methodologies for understanding CSCW contexts and applications
- Techniques for developing CSCW applications
- Theories and/or practices in participatory design
- Specific CSCW applications (e.g., collaborative games, collaborative writing tools, group meeting tools, media spaces, community data systems, virtual communities, social filtering technology)
Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of the topic's importance and suitability for presentation in a tutorial format, expertise of the instructors, and the fit in the overall balance of the tutorial program. Tutorial instructors will be eligible for an honorarium and complimentary registration.
Tutorial proposals should be no longer than 6 pages.
The first one or two pages is a summary of the proposed tutorial for the advance program. In 500 words or less identify the title of the tutorial, the instructors, why this is a great tutorial, its origin, goals and content, intended audience, and qualifications of the instructors. Please note one major change to the format used for the CSCW 2002 Tutorials is highlighted in bold in the previous sentence. Tutorial descriptions have been very dry. We are encouraging a reasonable level of marketing for this year's descriptions.
The remainder of the proposal should provide a topic outline, schedule for the tutorial, prior experience presenting this tutorial, and any other information that will help us evaluate its suitability for the conference. Please also supply a list of A/V and computer equipment required.

All submissions should be sent by email to the tutorial co-chairs at cscw2004-tutorials@acm.org by 5pm Pacific Time on Friday, April 30, 2004, though submissions received after this deadline may be considered. All submissions will be acknowledged by email.
