In this panel, we present a range of opinions about how social interaction in games should be studied and designed. Discussion about the study of gaming and game design in the CSCW community is beginning to shift from appropriateness of the topic of games, towards questions of the role or focus of such research. The inclusion of papers on games in recent CSCW proceedings, and related conferences and journals, suggests the increasing interest in and relevance of this topic. Our hope is that we will widen the debate on games in CSCW, and also connect with the wider discussion clarifying and advancing research directions in the study of games.
