Posters are a new submission category this year. Posters are an opportunity to present late-breaking and preliminary results, smaller results not suitable for a full or short paper, innovative ideas not yet validated through user studies, student research, and other research best presented in this open format. Posters will be displayed at a special session in the conference when poster authors will be available to discuss their work.
GROUP 2005 will display Posters so that researchers can interact directly with conference attendees to present late-breaking and preliminary results, smaller results not suitable for a full or short paper, innovative ideas not yet validated through user studies, student research, and other research best presented in this open format. Posters will be displayed throughout the conference and there will a scheduled session where authors will be expected to be available next to their Poster for informal discussions with conference participants. Accepted Poster abstracts will be published in the Conference Supplement that will be circulated to attendees; poster abstracts will not be incorporated into the main GROUP 2005 conference proceedings.
The following tips may help you prepare a successful poster abstract.
For the poster itself, the Poster Example Gallery of posters from CHI and UIST 2003 includes a variety of successful poster designs. The books of Edward Tufte, available in most libraries, provide excellent guidance in visual presentation of data (Salon.com interview of ET with sample graphics).
Poster submissions should include an extended abstract of no longer than 2 pages, including all figures and references. For posters that will have an interactive or visual component that is not apparent from the abstract, submissions may also include a separate description of the poster for review purposes, also limited to 2 pages.
The submission must be formatted according to the ACM SIG Proceedings Template. Note that for poster abstracts, you do not need to reserve blank space for copyright notice, since poster authors retain copyright. You may use that space for content or your own copyright notice.
Poster submissions should be e-mailed to the Poster Co-Chairs at Group2005-posters@acm.org. All submissions must be received by the chairs by May 16, 2005. Submissions received after this date will not be considered. All submissions will be acknowledged by email.
All questions should be directed to Group2005-posters@acm.org.
