Over the past fourteen years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing has become a primary forum for applied computer scientists, computer engineers, software engineers, and application developers from around the world to interact and present their work. SAC 2000 is primarily sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP) and other SIGs.

A track on Computer Uses in Education will be held at SAC’00. It will be a forum for school, college, university educators, instructional technology researchers and practitioners throughout the world to share technical ideas and experiences relating to implementation and application of computers and allied technologies in support of education. Original papers, tutorials (half day) and panel proposals are invited.

Major topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: Applications of computing to teaching and learning; Artificial intelligence and education; Assessment of the impact of computing on learning; Multimedia applications in education; Computer assisted collaborative learning; Courseware development; Intelligent tutoring systems; Computer applications in the humanities, sciences, engineering and general education; Web based instruction; Virtual classroom, On-line Course, Integrating Internet resources in the curriculum; Distance education; Use of DVD , Classroom simulations using 3-D computer animation; distributed learning; Integrating voice recognition systems in teaching and learning; Multimedia technologies.

Original papers from the above mentioned topics or related areas will be considered. This includes three categories of submissions:1) original and unpublished research 2)reports of innovative computing applications in education 3) reports of successful technology transfer to new problem domains.

Each submitted paper will be fully refereed and undergo a blind review process by at least three referees. The accepted papers in all categories will be published in the ACM Press SAC ’00 proceedings. Submission guidelines should be strictly followed.

1. Submit six copies of original manuscripts to the SAC’00 Computer Uses in Education at the address of the Track Chair mentioned above.
2. The author(s) name(s) and address(es) must not appear in the body of the paper, and self reference should be in the third person. This is to facilitate blind review.
3. The body of the paper should not exceed 15 pages double spaced (4000 words, 12 point font)
4. A separate cover sheet (in the case of electronic submissions this should be sent separately from the main paper) should show the title of the paper, the author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), and the address (including e-mail, telephone, and fax) to which the correspondence should be sent.
5. All submissions must be received by September 1, 1999.

Tutorials and Panel suggestions should be submitted well before September 1, 1999. They will receive a less formal review by the track chair and the program committee.
