How I arrived at my present job (academic and other influences): I'm a science graduate who wanted to do something different. Computers filled the bill.
How I organize my day: Since I do most of my work at home, I am constantly fighting interruptions. "Oh good, you're at home; we have time to talk." Arrrrrghhhh!
Amount of time spent working daily (at home and office): About six hours. It varies. In my last job, I estimated 4 hours at home equalled about 10 hours of work done in the office.
What I do to get myself thinking creatively: My job is not all that creative, but I have had bouts of writer's block. Sometimes, the only solution is to do something else for a while. Last weekend I filed my first quarter tax receipts!
My problem-solving strategy: Don't try anything hard when aggravated!
What I do to relieve stress: Am active in community organizations.
My hero, mentor, or person I most admire and why: Don't have any, or it varies.
What I do to mentor those who work for me: Always try to help while simultaneously evading being exploited.
One event or decision in my life I wish I could go back and change: Not getting into computers earlier.
What values are the most important to me and what I value in others: Directness and being able to count on others.
What inspires, motivates, or gets me excited about my job on a daily basis: I always value the opportunity to learn new things.
