How I arrived at my present job (academic and other influences): At a SWE Evening with Industry my Senior year in college (Cal Poly, SLO), I was introduced to one of the managers at National Semiconductor. He invited me up to Santa Clara, CA for interviews a month or so later. I accepted and was offered a job as a system administrator. I changed to a product engineer last year after talking with my general manager.
How I organize my day: Daily "to do" lists
Amount of time spent working daily (at home and office): ~9 hrs/day
What I do to get myself thinking creatively: Start working on a project and try to be the "devil's advocate"
My problem-solving strategy: Ask the following questions in no particular order: when? why? how? can this be re-created? if so, how? if not, why?
What I do to relieve stress: Work-out at the gym.
My hero, mentor, or person I most admire and why: My dad - he got me into this field by encouraging me to pursue the science/math area and gave me a lot of support - both with mental stability and in my schooling.
What I do to mentor those who work for me: I have no subordinates.
How a negative event changed my life in a positive way: During (and after) college, while at the bars, guys would approach me and start a conversation. But, once they found out my major (or career), they would state something like "it was nice meeting you" and then leave for another possible "conquest". I was very intimidating to most men, but then I met my future fiancee (who is also a "computer geek"). Though I used to feel negative towards my major (career) because of the intimidation factor, I don't anymore because I am lucky to have a man who accepts me for who I am.
One event or decision in my life I wish I could go back and change: I wish I could have been more "into" my major than just going through the motions.
What values are the most important to me and what I value in others: Honesty, friendliness, willingness to help someone, courteousness.
What inspires, motivates, or gets me excited about my job on a daily basis: Solving problems, working with others.
Biography: No awards yet. I am on my Jr. High's "Wall of Fame" for being a successful graduate and a model to other young women that being in science is okay. I have an interest in all sciences - technical and non-technical. My current goals are to become a Senior Manager (won't be for a while) and innovative thinker.
