Background on ACM Crossroads

ACM Crossroads is the international student magazine of the ACM. Its quarterly publication schedule coincides with the traditional collegiate academic year. Now in its seventh year, the magazine is a place for students interested in computing to publish their work, for which they may not find a forum elsewhere. For example, over 100 different authors have been published in ACM Crossroads to date. ACM Crossroads also provides students with accessible articles on a wide range of timely computer science related topics, and it provides a forum for ACM student chapters to exchange ideas.

Copies of ACM Crossroads are distributed by mail to the more than 20,000 student members of the ACM as well as computer science professors across the United States. ACM Crossroads was the ACM's first electronic publication. From the first issue, ACM Crossroads has been published electronically in HTML and distributed on the World Wide Web (http://www.acm.org/crossroads). The ISSN numbers for ACM Crossroads are: 1528-4972 in Print, and 1528-4980 Electronically.

80% of ACM student members (all of whom receive ACM Crossroads) go to school in the United States and 20% attend institutions in other countries. Two-thirds of these students are graduates students; one-third are undergraduates. Of the graduate students, 37% are studying for Masters Degrees and 63% are Doctoral candidates; of the undergraduates, 54% are seniors and 28% are juniors.

ACM student members cite a number of reasons for joining the organization, including the opportunity to learn about computer science topics not taught in class, to increase job opportunities, and to receive ACM publications. (The latter is the dominant reason why graduate students join the ACM.) Many of these students are interested in and have expertise in communications networks, computer-supported collaborative work, multimedia, image processing, or realtime systems.

ACM Crossroads provides an excellent vehicle through which to reach professionally-oriented computer science students. Because of ACM Crossroads' small size and the very specific demographic group which receives the publication, ACM Crossroads magazine is one of the best values for targeting the highly select computer science market. Whether you are selling a computer-related product or service or trying to recruit the best and brightest young minds, advertising in ACM Crossroads is a great way to achieve your goal!
