Conference Review Guidelines and Suggestions
When reviewing a conference, there are many things that need to be
included. The following is a list of required information for a
conference review:
- Which conference (e.g. OOPSLA, Grace Hopper Celebration, Big
Event, etc.)
- When and where
- Background on the conference
- Who sponsored it?
- Was it local? Regional? National? International?
- What was the main theme about it?
- If this is an annual event, what year of the conference?
- Who were the key speakers? Why are they important to the
field? What did they talk about?
- What tutorials/presentations/panel discussions were available?
- Who would've benefitted from attending?
- A link to the main conference site (if available)
- How much did it cost to attend the conference and
conference-related things? (Do not include travelling expenses such as
airfare or train fare, as it varies from location and time of the
year.) Is funding available for students to attend? If so, what kind of
funding and how would someone apply for it?
- Overall atmosphere -- Were there special gatherings? If so, what
were they like if you attended them?
- Overall impact from the conference -- how (if at all) will this
change the industry or field of interest?
An example of a conference review can be found here.
