Software Review Guidelines and Suggestions
Software is used everywhere in the computing industry. Whether it be
an in-house application for an accounting firm or a game on a college
student's computer, software is found on every computer. Every now and
then, you may come across a great software package. Why not review
it?
When reviewing software, there are many things you need to include:
- Name of Software Package
- Publisher/Company Who Produced It (e.g. Microsoft/Turbine
Entertainment, Microsoft/Microsoft, Electronics Arts/Maxis, etc.)
- Publishing Date
- Cost
- Type of Package (business/home office, development, gaming,
operating system, other)
- Platform Availability
- Installability
- Features
- Multimedia Features (e.g. sound, graphics, etc.)
- Program Capabilities
- User-Friendliness
- Learning Curve(if applicable)
- Plot (if applicable)
- System Requirements
- Similar Software Packages
For games, there are a few more things to consider:
- Originality - Does this stand out from other games?
- Appeal - Who does this appeal to?
- Longevity - Does this keep you interested? Approximately how much
play time can be put into the game? (if determinable)
- Multiplayer (if applicable) - how well does this handle multiplayer?
