Tools Tutorials, Part Deux

by Bill Stevenson

Welcome to our second annual mid-summer "tools tutorials" issue! Now that summer is nearly half over, it's time to take a break from playing The Sims and learn something that might be quite useful in your next class. When learning new material, often a tutorial is the best way to digest it. Fortunately, this special online-only issue is packed with useful tutorials!

Are you interested in computer languages and what happens behind the scenes with the implementation of compilers? Read John Aycock's article on Yacc and beyond. Are you and your friends gearing up to participate in the ACM's International Collegiate Programming Contest this year? Check out Shahriar Manzoor's article on common mistakes to avoid and hints for success. Last but not least, you can set up your very own caching proxy server by reading Josiah Dykstra's informative article on how to implement one with Apache. Go on, give it a try!

Aside from the tutorials, be sure to check out our newest column on active queue management by Connector author Kostas Pentikousis. And remember to check back now and then for more columns each month and our upcoming fall issue on Intellectual Property!

Enjoy your summer!
