Key Dates:
September 14, 1998: Registration Opens-
To participate in the 1999 Quest for Java, you must be an ACM Student Member (except in the states of Maryland and Vermont; also refer to the official rules for a list of countries where the contest is valid). To participate in the Quest, you must register through this website.
February 20, 1999: Deadline for registering and/or joining ACM-
Only ACM Student Members can participate in the Quest for Java (please see exceptions). You may join ACM right now. When joining, please indicate in the appropriate box on the Student Membership Application that you're also registering for the Quest for Java.
March 1st - March 31, 1999: Students Submit Their Applets-
Submit the URL for your applet and documentation between March 1 and March 31, 1999. Specific instrutions on how to submit your applet and its documentation will be provided to you by email, as well as through this web site.
April 1st - April 30, 1999: Judging Period-
The entire month of April will be devoted to judging the applets. Please see the Rules section for the criteria that will be used in evaluating entries.
May, 1999: Winners notified-
After the judging period, the Contest Administrator, Marden-Kane, will be given the names of the "potential winners" selected by the Quest for Java independent judges panel. Marden-Kane will contact "potential winners" (by registered postal mail and by email) to verify their names and addresses. Marden-Kane will send out the American Express Gift Check prizes to the winners.
June, 1999: Winners posted on the website-
ACM will announce the winners on the JQuest website as soon as Marden-Kane verifies all winners' names and addresses. The announcement will list the URLs for the winning entries (where possible). ACM will send the Quest for Java winners an electronic Quest for Java Winners' logo that can be used for the student's resume.
