You must be an ACM Student Member (except in the states of Maryland and Vermont) to participate in the Quest; you can join right here. Once you join you'll automatically be registered for the Quest. You'll need to join ACM and register no later than February 20, 1999. Please note: To qualify for student membership in ACM, you must be matriculated at an accredited educational institution and be carrying at least 9 semester credits at the time of joining. || Join ACM Now & Register for the Quest ||

Only applets can be submitted for the Quest. The applets will be judged on the basis of the following criteria: Creativity: the novel use of Java for solving a problem, i.e., building things that have generally not been built in this manner before and that reflect originality; Ease of Use: the "user friendliness" of the applet; Technical Merit: the amount of effort and use of advanced Java features in writing the applet; Correctness: the applet should run as intended and documented; and Quality of Documentation: documentation should explain both the user-level operation of the applet (how to use it and what it does) as well as design-level information. || Visit the Past Quest Winners ||

When you submit your applet, anytime during the month of March 1999, you will need to provide ACM with the URL where your applet resides, in addition to providing documentation for your applet; you will receive email notification from ACM telling you where to send your URL for judging purposes. || Submissions ||

Judging will take place during the month of April. The winners will be notified in May, and the winners' names will be posted on the jquest website in June 1999. || Judging ||
