Eligibility:

The ACM/IBM 1999 Quest for Java™ is open to ACM Student Members , 18 years of age and older (please see exceptions), and who are legal residents of Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan (R.O.C.), the United Kingdom, and the U.S. This contest is void where prohibited, taxed, or restricted by law.

You must register for the contest by February 20, 1999. See the Submission section for more details.

If you aren't an ACM Student Member and you'd like to participate in the Quest for Java™, you'll need to join ACM and register no later than February 20, 1999. Each registrant will receive a free Quest T-shirt (except where prohibited).

Requirements:

  1. You must be a Student Member of ACM. If you are not already a Student Member, please join ACM now. [Use this form to join]

  2. Whether you are joining now or have been a Student Member for some time, please make sure you have an active ACM Web Account -- you will need your account username and password to register for the contest.

  3. Register for the contest. [Use this form to register]

  4. Give us your email address, so we can add you to the "jquest listserv," the list that will keep you up-to-date on Contest Submission details and other important Contest announcements. Contest updates will also be posted on the jquest website.

  5. Individual registrants and Team registrants will be able to submit Java applets only; Java applications will not be accepted. See the Judging and Past Winners sections for judging criteria and examples of winning entries from past Quests.

  6. Games will not be accepted.

  7. Each applet will be evaluated as outlined in the official Rules section.

  8. This contest is open to ACM Student Members, 18 years of age or older (please see exceptions), who are legal residents of any one of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan (R.O.C.), the United Kingdom, and the U.S. This contest is void where prohibited, taxed, or restricted by law. Not eligible to enter are employees and their immediate families of IBM Corporation, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), their divisions, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies and Marden-Kane, Inc.

Key Dates:
September 14, 1998: Registration Opens
February 20, 1999: Last day to register and/or join ACM
March 1st through March 31, 1999: Submit Applets
April 1st through April 30, 1999: Judging Period
May, 1999: Winners Notified
June, 1999: Winners Posted
