Over the past 12 months, the ACM has devoted significant resources towards the important goal of developing new pricing plans for our consortia, government, and corporate customers. This effort has produced a systematic approach to the licensing of our Digital Library that is based on objective criteria (Carnegie Classifications and usage). Most importantly, this new methodology maintains ACM’s ongoing commitment to providing the world’s leading content in the computing field in a fair and equitable manner.
ACM's Rationale for the New Pricing Plans
Creating Parity
Our goal is for like customers to pay amounts based on a consistent scheme around the world. The tier-based plans we have developed differentiate by sector (academic consortia, government, and corporate site license). We have segmented our customers into four groups (1) US Academic Consortia (2) International Academic Consortia (3) Government and (4) Corporate. The approach we have chosen utilizes objective criteria (Carnegie Classifications and usage) to determine pricing levels. We also want to minimize disruption for both our customers and ACM.
Encouraging Continued Participation and Use
We will continue to work closely with our academic consortia, government and corporate leadership to maintain our well-established relationships, which include providing full online access to all of the ACM’s Digital Library content.
Smooth Transition
Our decision to launch the new plans in 2009 arose from our desire to provide as much advance notice as possible for our existing customers.
