More than half of all ACM members
join one or more Special Interest Groups

Volunteer-driven … ACM Special Interest Groups are formed out of the enthusiasm for exploring new technologies and extending the reach of existing disciplines. SIGs are sustained through volunteer commitment to each area of specialization, and thrive through membership involvement in SIG-sponsored activities.

A sharp focus … SIG membership gathers around each specialty area and benefits from the resources of each community. With their annual membership, members receive issues of the SIG newsletter that focuses of developments in the field and provides forums for discussion among the readership.

Technical excellence … Offering objective arenas for new ideas, many of the more than 120 SIG-sponsored conferences are in the forefront of technological trends - often by a good number of years … ACM SIG conferences become synonymous with new computing disciplines and function as the water cooler for the diverse communities involved in the latest developments.

Bridges … Taking a leadership role in the Association’s international character, SIGs actively sponsor or co-sponsor conferences and technical meetings outside North America and seek collaborations with other professional societies world-wide.

Professional growth … Ongoing educational programs, professional recognition awards, and electronic community programs are some of the initiatives promoted by the ACM SIGs.
