Fjeldstad acknowledges the importance of teamwork and sports in shaping her career.

"One of my outside-IBM mentors is John Wooden. John Wooden was the coach of the UCLA basketball team. That's the team that won ten national championships and I used to go watch them practice and play and I always believed in his philosophy. First is, as a coach, you're only as good a man as your team. And secondly, if you are a coach, usually you have previously been a player you remember how you want to be treated. The only way that you can protray that to your team is to really be part of the team.
