[ACM] Minerva's Machine: Women and Computing

Cynthia Harvey

One of the first women in modern computing, Cynthia Harvey was hired by Westinghouse Aerospace in the mid-50s. She was let go when she began her family. Two years later, in 1962, she then joined Morgan State University's Mathematics Department.

"The fact that I got a computer center established, and the fact that I developed the curriculum, and got the computer science department started, these things I consider pretty much to be what I was expected to do. But the (computer) club is just my crowning achievement and if there are difficulties, or situations where they need a mentor, or need someone to talk to, then I am there.
