<h1>Clarification of Sponsor</h1>

<p>
Every ACM conference is sponsored by one or more
ACM Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and sometimes
by one or more non-ACM groups. In addition, each conference
sponsor can be classified as 1) a full sponsor of the conference
or 2) an "in-cooperation" (minor) sponsor. And 3) in some
cases, an organization's or company's sponsorship of a
conference is minimal, (see examples below), and the company
should not be keyed as a sponsor of the conference at all.
Full sponsors are entered in the tags:
</p>
<pre> <sponsor>
<sponsor_name></sponsor_name>
<sponsor_name></sponsor_name>
</sponsor>
</pre>
<p>
In-cooperation sponsors are entered in the tags:
</p>
<pre> <incoop>
<incoop_name></incoop_name>
<incoop_name></incoop_name>
</incoop>
</pre>
<p>
We must capture the information on which SIG(s) and
non-ACM groups sponsored each conference, and whether
the sponsor is a full sponsor, co-sponsor, or an in-cooperation
sponsor.
</p>
<p>
How to determine sponsorship: The location of the sponsor
information is not consistent across all volumes. Many books
list this information on the front cover of the book or on the
title page. If the sponsors are not listed on the cover
or title page, they may be listed in the front matter: on the
copyright page, in the Foreword, Chair's Message, or the
Preface. In some cases, the sponsor must be determined
from the volume's title.
</p>
<p>
If a sponsor is ACM or an ACM SIG, the sponsor name
should be keyed as the SIG acronym. Otherwise, the
sponsor name should be keyed as it appears in the book.
</p>
<p>
Ex. "Sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery
Special Interest Group on Ada Programming Languages"
should be reduced to SIGADA.
</p>
<p>
Delete all conjunctive words in a list of sponsors, such as
"and," "with," or "including," etc.
</p>
<p>
Records for which you cannot determine the sponsor(s)
must be tagged,
</p>
<pre> <sponsor>
<sponsor_name>undetermined</sponsor_name>
</sponsor>

<h3>Determining the level of sponsorship. </h3>
<h4>Full sponsor:</h4>
<p>One or more groups listed as a "sponsor" are full
sponsors of the conference.</p>
<p>Ex. "Sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery's
Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics"</p>
<p>Ex. "This symposium was sponsored by the ACM
Special Interest Group on Algorithms and Computation
Theory and the SIAM Activity Group on Discrete Mathematics."</p>
<p>Co-sponsors of a conference are coded as full sponsors.</p>
<p>Ex. "Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society.
Co-sponsored by ACM and the IEEE Communications
Society."</p>
<p>
</p><ol><li>If no sponsor is listed, the SIG(s) listed in the title should
be keyed as full sponsor(s).</li>
<ol><li> In-cooperation sponsor:
</li><li> An in-cooperation sponsor will generally be listed that way.</li>
</ol>
</ol>
<p></p>
<p>Ex. "Sponsored by the Dept. of Computer Science,
University of Nebraska. With cooperation from the ACM
Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture."</p>
<ol><li>For ACM SIG sponsors, type the acronym in all caps.</li>
<li>Ex. <incoop>SIGARCH</incoop></li>
<li>Sponsors to delete:</li></ol>
<p>Some organizations listed as sponsors play a very minor
role, such as providing equipment or specific services.
These groups do not act as true sponsors, and should not
be included in the list of sponsors here.</p>
<p>Ex. Sponsored by Association for Computing Machinery
SIGACT. With support from US Department of Energy,
SmithKline Beecham, International Society for Computational
Biology, IM, US National Science Foundation (pending),
CNRS, INRA, EUROGENTEC-Seraing, IMGT, LIPHA, etc.</p>
<p>The sponsors in the long list of "With support from" should
be deleted.</p>
