ACM Journals Continue to Rank High in ISI Impact Factors

 

Thompson Scientific has recently released its Journal Impact Factor rankings for 2006. A number of ACM journals are ranked extremely high in terms of the impact factor. The Impact Factor is a ratio of the number of citations in 2006 of a given journal compared to the journal’s total articles for 2005 and 2004.

 

Here are some highlights from the 2006 data.


In the Software Engineering category, 7 ACM journals are ranked in the top 20, out of a total number of 82 journals indexed. The journals and their rankings are:

-Transactions on Graphics (1)

-Journal of the ACM (2)

-Transactions on Database Systems (3)

-Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (9)

-Communications of the ACM (12)

-ACM SIGMOD Record (13)

-Transactions on Mathematical Software (18)


Three other ACM publications (Transactions on Programming Languages and Systems; Transactions on Design Automation of Electronic Systems; and ACM SIGPLAN Notices) also were listed.


 

In the category of Information Systems, out of 87 journals indexed:

 

-Transactions on Information Systems (1)

-Journal of the ACM (6)

-Transactions on Database Systems (11)

-ACM SIGMOD Record (27)

 

In the category of Hardware & Architecture, out of 44 journals:

 

-IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (2)

-Journal of the ACM (2)

-Communications of the ACM (8)

 

In the category of Theory & Methods,  out of 75 journals:

 

-ACM Computing Surveys (1)

-Journal of the ACM (3)
