    ACM Council has completed its study and deliberation on the question of whether software engineers should be licensed. Following the work of a Professional Licensing and Software Engineering Advisory Panel and task forces on Body of Knowledge Issues and Safety Critical Software Issues, ACM Council has decided that ACM should withdraw from efforts that promote licensing of software engineers as professional engineers.
