How Sharing my Ideas and Research
Helped Me:
| 1. |
“I
had the opportunity to talk with the[judges] and some other
top researchers about my work and that was just priceless.
The suggestions and the feedback received were extremely useful
to detect weaknesses as well as to confirm strong points in
my research.”
Dario Correal, OOPSLA SRC |

“Participation
in this competition gave me the opportunity to attend, for
the first time, one of the most important conferences in the
world with the extra challenge of having to express my ideas
in a foreign language as English is not my mother tongue.”
Dario Correal, OOPSLA SRC |
| 3. |
“Never
had I been able to converse with so many professors from so
many top programs at one time, and know that my participation
in such a prestigious event will help me in my pursuit of
a graduate degree.”

“I
was very much impressed with the quality of the judging panel
since they were all people at the top of their fields and
they gave me very good feedback on the work which I presented.”
Trevor Parsons, OOPSLA SRC |
| 5. |
“The
year I participated, the winners were also brought to the
Pioneers reception. This was a really great opportunity to
rub elbows with the founders of our field…I can tell
you it was a fabulous experience for me. I now feel as though
I can approach several of these people and just have a conversation.
It was really a wonderful thing.”
Daniel Keefe, SIGGRAPH SRC |

“The
SRC was amazing. [This] was the first conference I have ever
attended, let alone submitted anything to. For a new researcher,
this was a great introduction into the community, the conference
experience, and getting feedback without the burden of the
finances of the trip.”
Joshua Hailpern, ASSETS SRC |

“…I
would say that the ACM SRC was probably the only real chance
for a young researcher like me to really get a voice, get
into the field and get to know people.”
Eric Bodden, OOPSLA SRC |
| 8. |
“The
poster session was a particularly good experience since it
was my first one. I learned about communicating technical
information quickly and efficiently in this format.”
Benjamin Lee, Supercomputing SRC |
| 9. |
“SRC
provided me with a unique opportunity to showcase my research
project and get useful feedback from the community.”
Vishnu Navda, MOBICOM SRC |
Life After the SRC:
| 10. |
“I
have advanced in my research. At this moment I have a new
version of the language that I have been developing and also
I finished the first version of a software tool to start my
experimentation. In addition, I am working on a new paper
with the advances of my research and the ideas gathered during
and after the ACM SRC.”
Dario Correal, OOPSLA SRC |
| 11. |
“I
am currently writing up my PhD thesis, which is based on the
work that I presented at the SRC.”
Trevor Parsons, OOPSLA SRC |
12. |
“The
work I presented in my poster has grown to be a main focus
of my PhD dissertation, which I will receive this year.”
Daniel Keefe, SIGGRAPH SRC |
| 13. |
“I
[felt] emboldened by receiving ACM SRC award and decided to
go on to doctorial course.”
Yuki Mori, SIGGRAPH SRC |
| 14. |
“Through
the SRC, people already knew me - in person. Otherwise I would
just have been one out of many. On the other hand, those people
also had a chance to actually see a presentation of my work,
which gave them more confidence in selecting me as a Ph.D.
student for their research group.”
Eric Bodden, OOPSLA SRC |
| 15. |
“I
am continuing to pursue the research projects presented in
the SRC. These projects will be a big part of my thesis work
and I was very happy to get feedback on the strengths and
weaknesses of my work. This feedback pointed to several other
related areas that I had not previously considered and these
areas have the potential to broaden the scope of my projects.”
