Letter From the Director
Welcome to the ACM Distinguished Lectureship Program for 2001-2002. We hope you will take full advantage of it. The intent of the program is to provide a framework wherein distinguished scholars and practitioners of computer science are made available to make presentations to student and city ACM chapters on a vast range of topics. The hope is that students will gain first-hand access to cutting-edge research and current professional IT insights, and that city chapters will get exposure to concepts and results that add breadth and depth to their professional experience. ACM is pleased to provide this service to its members, and contribute to the quality and professionalism of the computer science and information technology communities. This web site is supposed to fill you in on all the details of the program, including also our Regional Magnet Event Program and programs currently in place or planned for other regions of the world. As a member of an ACM chapter, you are encouraged to invite one or more of these Lecturers to speak at one of your meetings. The step-by-step guide should provide enough detail to help you do that. If you are not an ACM member, clicking here can help you change that. If there are any details of the Distinguished Lectureship Program that are not clear, please let us know. Email to: lectureship@acm.org works best. If you find topics that you would like to hear talks on that are missing from the list of topics, please let us know that also. We will try to find someone who can fill that need. Finally, if you know of a person who is a stimulating lecturer and expert in his/her field who is not an ACM Distinguished Lecturer, please let us know. We are always looking to improve the Distinguished Lectureship Program. My best wishes for a strong productive year. I hope you find that the Lectureship Program can contribute to it. Sincerely, Yale N. Patt Director, ACM Distinguished Lectureship Program. |
