Ubiquity - An ACM IT Magazine and Forum

LONG LIVE UBIQUITY!

Considered Opinions about Computing

Message from the Publisher

After almost 10 years under the inspired leadership of John Gehl, Ubiquity is entering a new stage of existence. As of July 2008, John is stepping down as Editor-In-Chief of this iconic forum. He will be succeeded by the preeminent Peter J. Denning, former president of ACM and chair of the Computer Science Department at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. Peter is now assembling an expanded editorial board for Ubiquity. ACM thanks John for his meritorious service to Ubiquity and for his dedication to making it a respected, popular publication that receives rave reviews from ACM's membership.

Ubiquity has always been concerned with broad views of computing. As computing reaches ever more deeply into many fields, the number of people with opinions about computing is growing. We need to know about them. Ubiquity will reach out to the edges of our field and beyond, to find out what people think the meaning of computing is in their lives and work.

Ubiquity will continue to thrive as an online publication and will benefit from a closer association with the new Communications of ACM. It will provide high quality perspectives, interviews, and commentaries that bridge the worlds of practitioners, researchers, and educators inside and outside the computing and IT industries. The cross disciplinary perspective will be a hallmark for Ubiquity, everywhere.

Please enjoy the latest issue of Ubiquity.
