Bill Aspray
I am a professor in the School
of Informatics
at Indiana University in Bloomington, where I teach social informatics and
organizational informatics. I hold courtesy appointments in computer
science, library and information science, and history and philosophy of
science. I just joined IU this year after six years as executive director
of Computing Research Association. My
graduate training is in mathematical logic and history of science, but I have
taught in various kinds of departments ranging from math and computer science
to history and public policy at Williams, Harvard,
Minnesota, Rutgers,
and other places. I also was a staff director at IEEE in the distant past.
My IT policies have been focused
primarily on workforce issues and under-representation of women and
minorities. I am currently editing a survey book for non-specialists on
IT policy and politics, covering the entire spectrum of issues. I expect
to begin teaching social and political aspects of cybersecurity and information
assurance next academic year.
