ACM Council on Women in Computing
ACM-W supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of computing, providing a wide range of programs and services to ACM members and working in the larger community to advance the contributions of technical women. Membership in ACM-W is open to all ACM members and is free of charge.
Jodi Tims Named New Chair of ACM-W
On July 1, Jodi Tims succeeded Valerie Barr as Chair of the ACM-W Women's Council. She was previously Vice Chair. Tims is a Professor of Computer Science at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, where she also serves as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The inaugural ACM Europe Conference was a truly international event, bringing together computer scientists and practitioners from around the world. 2012 ACM Turing Award laureate Silvio Micali and ACM Fellow, Athena Lecturer and ACM-IEEE CS Ken Kennedy Award recipient Katherine Yelick gave talks. ACM TURC 2017: Turing 50th Celebration Conference - China
The ACM Turing 50th Celebration Conference - China (ACM TURC 2017) was held in Shanghai, China May 12-14. ACM Turing Award laureates Vint Cerf, John Hopcroft and Andrew Yao delivered keynote talks and participated in a roundtable forum and panel discussions with industry renowned scholars. ACM president Vicki L. Hanson, former ACM president Alexander L. Wolf, and ACM CEO Robert B. ("Bobby") Schnabel also attended and delivered talks.

ACM: Formed at the Dawn of Computing
ACM was established in 1947 soon after the creation of ENIAC, the first stored-program digital computer, to “advance the science, development, construction, and application of the new machinery for computing, reasoning, and other handling of information.”
