Abstract: A career in IT is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after in India, and is one that probably the largest number of engineers (as well as non-engineers) go for. College education in CS/IT (as well as related disciplines) is expected to prepare students for a career in IT. Often, however, colleges are not able to build sufficient knowledge and skills to provide a good launching for a career to the students. In this presentation-cum-discussion, first an overview of what a career in IT industry means is discussed. Then it discusses what are the capabilities needed to get a good start in one’s career. Finally, it discusses what students can do while they are in college to prepare themselves for a successful and satisfying career in IT.
