ACM India launches IndiCS

ACM India announces IndiCS (Computer science Seminars in India) - a new initiative to facilitate high quality research interactions between researchers, practitioners and advanced students on topics at the frontiers of Computer Science through focused and participative research seminars located in India. An IndiCS seminar is intended to be an immersive experience, where the participants stay, eat, discuss and work together for the duration of the seminar. An important component of IndiCS seminars is the facilitation of significant interactions, open discussions and informal collaborations between participants beyond the formal presentation sessions. The IndiCS seminar series replaces the Mysore Park Workshop series that was operational from 2010 to 2017.

Salient features

  • Any group of CS researchers/practitioners can submit an IndiCS proposal. At least one proposer must be based in India at the time of submission.
  • Two deadlines for proposal submissions in a year

         ◦ January 31, Year X: For seminars in autumn/winter of Year X
         ◦ June 30, Year X: For seminars in spring/summer of Year X+1

  • A typical IndiCS seminar lasts 3-5 days, and can be optionally preceded or followed by an instructional school for 1-2 days.
  • Participation in IndiCS seminars is by invitation only, and is limited to 45 participants.
  • The overall administration of IndiCS is overseen by a Steering Committee nominated by ACM India.
  • All proposals will be competitively evaluated for quality and relevance by a Scientific Committee appointed by the Steering Committee.
  • An IndiCS seminar is expected to produce a report that serves as a research reference for those working in the area.
  • IndiCS seminars are not tied to a specific location/campus in India; instead venues are chosen from a set of pre-selected venues conducive for such interactions.
  • ACM India will provide capped funding for boarding, lodging and travel for a limited number of students from India.
