USTPC Panel on Section 230 of Communications Decency Act, November 18

November 12, 2020

For decades, the responsibility—and legal liability—of internet platforms like Facebook and Twitter has been governed by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. On Wednesday, November 18 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM EST, please plan to join a panel of experts from ACM’s US Technology Policy Committee (USTPC) to learn more about this key law and participate in a deep-dive discussion of how courts have interpreted Section 230, why policymakers are calling for its repeal or amendment, and what effect the President’s May 28, 2020 Executive Order concerning social media platforms may have.

Section 230: The Origins and Future of Online Content Control and Liability in the US

  • Andy Grosso (Moderator), Chair of USTPC’s Law Subcommittee and former Assistant US Attorney;
  • Mark Rasch, founder of the US DOJ's Computer Crime Unit and Cyber-Forensics practice and frequent media commentator;
  • Pam Samuelson, ACM Fellow, author of “Legally Speaking” columns for Communications of the ACM, and Richard M. Sherman Distinguished Professor of Law and Information at the University of California, Berkeley; and
  • Danny Weitzner, Chair of USTPC’s Digital Governance Subcommittee and Founding Director of the MIT Internet Policy Research Initiative

The Zoom event is free and open to all. No registration is required, but to attend, please RSVP to [email protected] and be sure to put “Sec 230” on the Subject line of your email.
